Boy, 13, is arrested for threatening to shoot up Florida middle school

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for threatening to shoot up his Florida middle school.

The boy, who hasn't been named, made the threat on Facebook against Swift Creek Middle School in Tallahassee.

Police said someone alerted them to the post on Wednesday and they tracked it back to the eighth-grade student.

The boy had posted a photo on Facebook two months ago of himself holding a bag with the caption: 'Let's see if I can shoot the pistol with my left hand'.

Another person commented on the photo two weeks ago, saying: 'Let's see if we can shoot up the school with both'.

The 13-year-old replied to the comment: 'I'm ready let's goo'.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office said they had not found any evidence that the student had planned to carry out the threat.

The eighth grader was charged with written threats to do harm.

Authorities say they are still investigating the incident.

'As we start the new school year, the Leon County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone it takes all of these threats seriously and those making them will be dealt with accordingly,' the sheriff's office said.
