Others chimed in with: “Best in the world,” and: “My only regret is this man wasn’t wearing the armband earlier.”
And another emotional Reds fan added: “THE COLDEST MAN ON THE PLANET. HIS AURA IS UNMATCHED. GREATEST CB OF ALL TIME. HE HAS WAVES A MANBUN A FADE AND A GOATEE. WHO ELSE CAN DO IT LIKE HIM. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.”

Van Dijk appeared to be referencing those in the media and online who have questioned whether he is still the best centre-back in the world. Speaking after lifting his first trophy as Liverpool captain, Van Dijk said: "It's all for the fans, so let's enjoy it. An intense game for both sides, they had chances, we had chances. Amazing. First trophy as Liverpool captain.
"We did a job, even with all the problems we have had before the game. I'm so proud, proud to be part of this club and especially proud of the boys. I won't speak too soon, but hopefully we can win a few more [trophies this season]."
